What an exciting day! Yesterday we spent time at the New Bedford Art Museum in New Bedford, Massachusetts, making plans for the upcoming Excellence in Fibers exhibition (1/29-3/. Here are some shots of Noelle Foye, executive director, and Jamie Uretsky, curator, who explained some of the options we have for hanging and showcasing the work in the space.
Last year we started Excellence in Fibers as a print-only juried exhibition. We shared the resulting special collector’s edition magazine with over 200 decision makers in fibers, including curators, executive directors, collectors, and all of our subscribers. This year we will share all of the work again, and will have a full museum exhibition to showcase many of the works that are selected for Excellence in Fibers.
Excellence in Fibers Museum Exhibition FAQs
- Will all of the work juried into the show be shown in the museum? We will show as much work as possible, but may not be able to fit all of the work chosen by our jurors into the museum space. The collector’s edition magazine will serve as the full exhibition catalog, and will include the entire exhibition.
- Why should I submit my work if it may not go into the museum, even if it’s juried into the exhibition? Selected works will appear in the Second Annual Excellence in Fibers catalog which will be presented to curators and directors of 200+ museums and galleries that feature fiber work and a select group of fiber and fine craft collectors. It will be integrated into the special expanded winter issue of Fiber Art Now, a subscriber-supported publication that also is sold on over 400 Barnes & Noble newsstands in the US, 200+ Chapters Books in Canada, and select newsstands in the UK. There will be a $300 prize for each category, with a $600 Best of Show prize chosen from all entries. This more than doubles the available prizes compared to EIF 2015. In each category, 12 works will be selected.
- Who are the jurors? We are very excited about our 206 juror group!
